ON 13 March on the banks of the mighty Lake Pupuke, twenty six of AGGS ‘keenest’ met at sparrows pip in the interests of dominating the Auckland Dragon Boating regatta. A 7:30am meeting time meant that some girls were on the road well before 6am. It truly is a marathon undertaking and a big thank you to all the parents and staff who turned up to support the girls.
The weather was picture perfect and though there was slight breeze that picked up later in the day, we continued to beat our own times race after race. We improved on last year, moving from the bottom 1/3rd to the top 2/3rds. The girls paddled hard and paddled with integrity. We have lots of great ideas and will be looking to improve our training, equipment and systems for next year.
Congratulations to our captain, Samantha Maitland who proved herself to be both a fantastic drummer/caller and team captain – pulling the team together and motivating them throughout the day.
It wouldn’t be an AGGS team event without a lot of planning going in to the shared lunch which was delicious.
Paddles down for now,
Ms Houpapa
